WELCOME to Covenant Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

The second annual presentation of “Heart Songs … from the Edge of the World” was performed Friday night, June 22nd, 2007 at Spokane’s Bing Crosby Theater.

HeartSongs

HeartSongs is the annual event produced and presented by P.o.P Ministries.  It is the coming together of composers, songwriters and musicians from around the Spokane community with a choir of homeless and previously homeless families (The Voiceless).

The evening included many  artists who performed original songs written about their homeless experiences. “The Voiceless Singers” performed many wonderful heartfelt songs.  Helping out musically was a Community Brass Band, a Community  Choir and Jennifer Martin of SNAP.  Other impressive performers were; BEAF; a Christian Rock group, Jake Levernier; guitar and singing, and Sari Levernier on her harp, all performing original pieces. The evening was creatively emcee’d by Charles Cornwell.

Many shared their personal experiences dealing with the challenges of homelessness which became the inspirations for the songs that were written and performed.  In addition to giving “Voice to the voiceless”, HeartSongs is a consciousness raising event to put a human face on homelessness and poverty that has the fruits of raising funds for both SNAP and CrossWalk.

SariThe audience was clearly impressed with the entertainment, stories and enthusiasm from all participants.  The concert culminated with all people joining together to sing the song “Trust in Me”.

HeartSongs 2007 raised over $5000.00 from donations, sponsorships and ticket sales!  The growth and involvement over our first year was amazing.  We are looking forward to building on our successes for the next HeartSongs and beyond.
